In January 31st 2014, the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Consecrated Life, along with the Secretary General of this congregation, explained at a press conference that this especial celebration has been premeditated in the context of the 50th anniversary of the publication of the Decree Perfectae Caritatis and the Second Vatican Council. They also indicated the objectives of the year dedicated to consecrated life:

  1. To thank God for the gift of consecrated life and especially for its 50th years of renewal according to the teachings of the Council.
  2. To embrace the future with hope, trusting in the Lord, to whom they offer all their consecrated life.
  3. To live the present with passion, evangelizing their own vocation and witnessing to the world the beauty of following Christ in the various ways in which consecrated life is expressed.
